Public Transportation
Plan a route, board a bus or BART, manage your fare, and travel independently across the East Bay.

What this looks like
Independent transportation opens up the rest of your life — work, friends, doctor's appointments, the library, the gym. We ride with you on the routes you actually use: AC Transit, BART, County Connection, Wheels, and paratransit. You learn to plan trips, manage fares, recognize stops, and handle the unexpected.
How we teach it
- Practice on the bus and BART lines you'll use most
- Plan trips using transit apps (Transit, 511, Google Maps)
- Manage a Clipper card, check balance, reload
- Identify safe waiting spots, recognize your stops, and ask for help when needed
- Build confidence handling delays, missed connections, and route changes
A real session
Today's goal: get from your apartment to your weekly volunteer shift across town. Together we look up the route on the Transit app. You walk to the bus stop, tap your Clipper card, and ride to the BART station. We transfer to BART, then walk the last few blocks. On the way back, you lead the whole return trip.
