Advocacy & Working With Agencies
Speak up for your family and work with the agencies involved in your children's lives.

What this looks like
Parents with developmental disabilities are often watched more closely than other parents. We help you speak up for yourself, know your rights, and work with the people involved in your family's life — your service coordinator, your child's school, and the Department of Family and Children's Services when they are involved. If you are working toward reunification or have supervised visits, we prepare with you and can be there.
How we teach it
- Know your rights as a parent and as a Regional Center client
- Practice speaking up in meetings about your own family
- Prepare for DFCS meetings, court dates, and supervised visits
- Work through reunification steps one written task at a time
- Build a circle of support: family, friends, neighbors, and parent groups
A real session
You have a supervised visit Saturday and a DFCS meeting next week. We plan the visit: two activities your son likes, a snack, and what to bring. Afterward we go through the case plan one task at a time, mark the two that are done, and write down what you will say about them in the meeting.
