Home & Community Safety

Recognize risks, respond to emergencies, and stay safe at home and out in the community.

What this looks like

Safety skills make every other skill possible. We work with you on recognizing risks, knowing how and when to call for help, navigating your home and neighborhood safely, and protecting yourself online and in person — all without making fear the main feeling.

How we teach it

  • Practice using 911 and knowing when (and when not) to call
  • Identify safe people and safe places in your neighborhood
  • Set up smoke detectors, first-aid supplies, and emergency contacts at home
  • Recognize common scams (phone, online, in person) and how to respond
  • Plan what to do if you get lost, separated, or feel unsafe in the community

A real session

Today we walk through three scenarios at your kitchen table — a small kitchen fire, a stranger at your door, and a phone call asking for your bank information. You talk through what you'd do in each. We practice the 911 call out loud, including your address and what to say first.
